By supporting campers who may not otherwise have the opportunity, we empower them to grow, connect, and thrive while fostering confidence, lifelong friendships, and a connection to nature.

My partner and I work long hours just to keep up with our bills, and during the summer it has always been especially difficult for our family. Before my two daughters started attending camp, they would spend their summers at home while we were at work—mostly watching TV or playing board games together because we simply couldn’t afford trips, pools, or other activities.
That all changed when we met the Assistant Principal at my kids school, who truly changed their lives. He spoke to them about a scholarship to sleepaway camp. At first, I was nervous because my daughters had never spent a night away from me, but I trusted the opportunity because I knew they needed something more than staying home all summer.
That first summer was hard for me—I missed them deeply—but receiving their postcards every day, filled with excitement and joy, reassured me that they were having an incredible experience.
This will now be their fifth year attending Camp Chateaugay, and they absolutely love it. Camp has become a part of our family. Every year, when I ask what they want for Christmas, their answer is always the same: camp gear, so they can be ready for the summer ahead. They look forward to camp all year long and count down the days until they can return.
Before camp became part of their lives, when my daughters returned to school in September and were asked what they did over the summer, they often struggled to answer and sometimes felt they had to make something up because they hadn’t had the opportunity to do much. Now, when they return to school and are asked that same question, they hold their heads high with big smiles and proudly share all the wonderful experiences they had at camp. Seeing that confidence and joy means everything to me.
Because of camp, my daughters have experienced things we could never have afforded—horseback riding, water skiing, rock climbing, tennis, and so much more. They’ve also grown into independent, responsible young girls who know how to cook, clean, and take care of themselves.
